Position Highlights:

  • Unmatched Quality of Life: Work 10 days per month, allowing ample time to enjoy the natural beauty and recreational activities the Kenai Peninsula has to offer.
  • Low Patient Volume: Manage an average daily census of 10 patients, enabling you to provide focused, high-quality care without burnout. 1-2 admissions & discharges per shift
  • State-of-the-Art Facility: Practice in our 18-bed Critical Access Hospital with a modern 9-bed Emergency Department, fully equipped to handle a wide range of acute cases.
  • Comprehensive Support: Benefit from 24/7 support across various departments, including Emergency, Surgery, Obstetrics, Respiratory Therapy, and onsite imaging and laboratory services.

Your Role:

  • Patient Care: Provide comprehensive inpatient care, including rounding, managing admissions and discharges, and overseeing post-operative patients.
  • Pediatric Coverage: While pediatric coverage is preferred, it is not required. Support is available for NRP, intubation, UVC placement, and circumcisions if needed.
  • Vent Management: Manage ventilated patients for a max of 24-48 hours, ensuring optimal respiratory support with assistance from E-ICU physicians.
  • ICU Management: Oversee drips and other critical care interventions in our ICU beds with E-ICU support.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with ED, OR, GS, OB, and RT teams to coordinate patient care.
  • Procedures (As Preferred): Perform procedures like cardioversion, treadmill stress tests, thoracentesis, paracentesis, wound care, central line placement, and more to enhance patient treatment plans.

Schedule and Work-Life Balance:

  • Work Schedule: 5 days on, 10 days off –approximately 10 days on duty per month.
  • Shift Structure: 
    • 24-Hour Shifts: Start at 8:00 AM with nurse changes at 7:00 AM.
    • Typical Day: Rounding and discharges in the morning; afternoons for documentation and follow-ups.
    • Evenings and Nights: Minimal overnight responsibilities; remote access available for chart review and orders. Nurses handle most overnight needs, with hospitalist call-backs as necessary.
